Tax Checkoff Helps Conserve Land in Georgia

January 25, 2017

Conservation-minded Georgians wanting to help preserve the state’s natural resources can donate to the Georgia Land Conservation Program (GLCP) on their 2016 state income tax forms.

Individual taxpayers donate to the GLCP by adding a dollar amount to line 29 on Georgia Form 500 or line 13 on Georgia Form 500EZ. The amount is subtracted from the overall refund or added to the overall payment. Contributions are deductible in tax year 2017.

The contributions help the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Georgia Forestry Commission, and the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation conserve land through conservation easements or property title transfers from landowners. Since 2005, the donated funds have helped to permanently protect more than 39,000 acres of natural, agricultural, and historical lands.
